No More NYC Foam Ban!

Polystyrene products have been banned in all sorts of areas around the country, as there has been a large concern that this type of product is harmful to the environment. This was primarily a concern, due to the fact that these products take hundreds of years to break down, and most of this type of foam winds up in dumps.

This is bad for the environment, although the reality is that these types of products can easily be recycled, except we have not been focusing any time or effort on getting that done on a large scale. Because of this, foam bans have been cropping up in cities all over the United States. The foam ban in New York caused a lot of uproar from those businesses that use polystyrene products each and every day.

If you do not know what foam products in the food service industry are, they comprise all of the foam cups, take out boxes, plates, and various other types of foam products. If you have ever gotten a to-go box, you can just about guarantee that it was made out of foam. Foam is so cheap to purchase, making it a very great thing for businesses to utilize, so when the ban went into effect, they lost a lot of money.

However, the ban has officially been overturned by a judge, who has not allowed for businesses in the city to use these types of products again. While this is a great thing for the food service industry and all of the businesses in the city, there is a bigger picture plus that is getting a lot of people excited. There have not been many efforts in regards to recycling polystyrene products on a large scale, while it is absolutely possible.

The overturn of this ban creates the opportunity to develop this type of recycling plant, which could be done on a huge scale. The best part about this is the fact that not only can we recycle all of the foam products that are going to be used in the future and are already being used today, we can also decide to go back into those landfills and remove all of the polystyrene products from them. We could then recycle those products, which will clean up the environment, as well as provide us with a means of recycling our foam and creating cheap, efficient products for businesses to utilize.
